Sunday 7/26/09 Amsterdam Last Day

We checked out of the hotel around 11 and took the tram to the train station so we could leave our luggage. The locker room was huge, and confusing. Once we found an empty locker we went to the little pay station that is in the middle of the section. It was confusing how you put the credit card in and I couldn’t get it to stay in English. Eventually we figured it out and were on our way.

Initially we were going to go to the Anne Frank house but the line was outrageous and we didn’t have that much time. So we decided to walk around and we found a Bagels and Beans. The bagel was pretty good I suppose, very overpriced and the waitress didn’t bring us our coffee until 5 minutes after we finished our bagel. No tip for you! (Seinfeld again)

We walked toward the train station and on the way we went into this really strange gay store with magnets and knick knacks, like salt and pepper shaker penises. It was interesting though. Then we went to the train station.

I don’t really have that much to say about the rest of the day. We got to the airport an hour before we could even check in so we sat and waited. Then we waited to get “herded” onto the plane again. The flight went pretty well. There was a lot of turbulence during our descent which was scary.

Overall thoughts about Amsterdam:
  • It is the complete opposite of Paris. Everything seems so casual. The scenery wasn’t that impressive. In Paris and Edinburgh its almost like you can take a picture of anything and it will be pretty. That definitely wasn’t the case in Amsterdam, hence the lack of pictures.
  • The people are so nice…and attractive. At no point did I feel as though people treated us differently because we were obviously American.
  • I feel as though Amsterdam can definitely be experienced in a weekend. Maybe if we had more of a full day on Sunday we would have been able to see everything we wanted to see.
  • Overall Amsterdam was very relaxing, a much needed break after our weekend in Paris.
